“Giving thanks to the Father” Colossians 3:17
Giving thanks is a personal thing. It’s something we all can do. It’s our hearts counting our blessings and offering thanks to the Blesser. It is a continuous expression from the heart as well as the voice.
I. Looks up – It looks to God the giver of every good and perfect gift and bows in worship before Him, thanking Him for all things at all times. The word of God tells us “…to give thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Giving thanks is a powerful expression of prayer and worship!
II. Looks around – As we give thanks to God, we should look around us. Many times when we are down and despondent we should lift our eyes to count the blessings of God in our lives. Our weeping turns to joy as we give thanks. Instead of complaining, we desire to extend a helping hand to others in need and become a blessing to them.
III. Looks outwards – Thanksgiving looks outward with a servant’s heart to meet the needs of others so that as we reach out to serve “men may see our good works and glorify God with thanksgiving and praise.”
As we look up to God and around to see His many blessings, and extend ourselves outward to touch the lives others with the love of Jesus Christ, our thanksgiving will be transformed into Thanks-Living.
